Summary of UK campaign/communalist groups, events & locations + how to keep them updated.

Looking for food not bombs groups in the UK I found the information on the umbrella organisations website outdated, so I checked all the individual chapters pages and created an updated article.

So in cases where there’s no volunteer web developer on hand I’ll to try to be a point of contact for keeping information updated.

As well as creating tables, maps and colanders where none existed before hand in easily viewable share links, then sending them to the campaign web developer to host on their site.

Many sites do already have maps for things happening near you, as well as an easy process for how to update them, so check them out below and help out with information also where you can.

As well you can comment below any important ones I’ve missed or suggestions on formatting.

Food not Bombs – UK Chapters

Food Not Bombs gathers food that would otherwise be thrown out by shops and uses it to cook vegan or freegan meals, which we give out for free on the streets and at events. In doing this, we aim to show how much food is wasted needlessly and to eliminate some of this waste. We oppose the spending of money on weapons in the face of world hunger, an issue that we believe could be solved with suitable logistics.

Reasoning about Reason 07/01/2020 10:30
Enlightenment philosophers, as we have seen, attached great importance to reason, which they believed would eventually lead to the moral and political progress of the human race. Some contemporary thinkers (e.g. Steven Pinker in his book Enlightenment Now) take a broadly similar line. Others however (e.g. John Gray in his book Enlightenment’s Wake) condemn such faith in reason, arguing that few if any moral and political problems can be resolved by reason alone and that most depend for their settlement on personal convictions. What is at issue is the role of reason in moral and political thought. Enlightenment thinkers viewed reason as paramount. Many today, however, believe moral and political decisions owe as much or more to our emotions – how we feel and what we desire. We shall examine these two positions and try to adjudicate between them – thus reasoning about reason.

Rituals? 11/01/2020 11:00 Ritual theories assert that it is at the heart of all social dynamics. Rituals generate group emotions that are linked to symbols, forming the basis for beliefs, thinking, morality, and culture. People use the capacity for thought, beliefs, and strategy to create emotion-generating interactions in the future. It is claimed that these cycles of interaction are the most basic structural force that organizes society.

Are rituals essential for the development and maintenance of community?

Do rituals merely endorse the existing state of society?

Should we resist rituals?

Archiving deleted content, giving a snapshot of what vegan content looked like years ago. Mostly from channels who stopped producing content, but some snapshots from channels past where there’s been a big change in direction.

I’m careful about what I re-upload and do so assuming with most it’s simply content the creator no longer wants front and center of their channel, but wouldn’t mind it being archived elsewhere. I would almost always take down videos if asked, the one exception is whistleblowing bigoted right wing propoganda the creator is trying to cover up.

Vegan Grey Areas & Campaign Allies

Another taste of what I’m writing. Anyone can contribute to these simply by signing up to the Philosophical Vegan Forum & Wiki, plus making a little introduction post so we know you’re not a spam-bot.

.

Vegan Grey Areas

In Short

Understandable circumstances

  • Eating Disorder
  • Chronic Disease / Multiple Food Allergies
  • Pest Prevention
  • Survival

Some might be surprised that some vegans support

  • Wildlife management
  • Non-intrusive wild beekeeping
  • Freeganism
  • Caring for rescued animals
  • Lab grown meat

.

.

Animal Liberation’s Common Allies

Perspectives both groups/movements can gain from each other about our overlap and practical ways we can all offer mutual support in achieving our campaign goals.

Some vegan perspectives might feel foreign to those who haven’t before considered the emotional lives of animals, but under the right circumstance people can come to understand and sympathize e.g. a fellow volunteer at the domestic violence shelter who’s vegan and you come to understand their passion and dedication is only furthered by this philosophy.

Animal Liberation’s Contentious Allies

Groups/movements that don’t live up to our ethical standard, but who we may find useful to collaborate with to achieve our campaign goals.
